About Us

The Volunteer Jurists Association was founded in Switzerland on 18 February 2020.
The Volunteer Jurists is a professional, non-political, non-profit and international association, aiming to combat human rights violations against all lawyers around the world. The main aim of the Association is to safeguard the independence of the judiciary, which is an essential requirement of the judicial function and a guarantee for human rights and freedoms.
As an independent non-governmental organization, it determines to defend human rights and freedoms all over the world by the means of national and international co-operation in order to ensure fair implementation of international covenants and conventions. To that end, it is decisive in working closely with governments, non-governmental organizations and other associations to foster a cooperative dialogue on human rights.
The objects of the Association, as stated at the Statute, are in sum as follows:
To disseminate, promote and defend democracy, human rights, rule of law, judicial independence and freedoms, in the spirit of the Universal declaration of Human Rights and the Charter of the United Nations, both to the competent International bodies and Human Rights Mechanisms;
To assist, guide and support victims of human rights and judicial independence violations;
To take the necessary steps to access the appropriate human rights and judicial independence mechanisms globally;
To establish, in the concept of judicial independence, appropriate partnerships and professional dialogue with local, national and international authorities, United Nations, Council of Europe and European Union entities/programs, Permanent Missions, the academic institutions, civil society organizations, the private sector, the members of the judiciaries, the jurists and the individuals who share its values;
To follow up challenges or threats to judicial independence or practices adversely affecting judicial independence;
To help judges and jurists when they face threats or challenges to judicial independence.
